Learn about the Royal Enfield brand
Royal Enfield started producing motorcycles in 1901, at the request of the British Government, who needed a reliable, fast motorcycle for the British Army. Later, other British companies started making motorcycles, companies like; BSA, Norton, Triumph, and AJS.

In the 1950.s, a plant was opened in India due to the large demand there. The Royal Enfield's were used by the Indian Army, the Police, Border Patrol, and other Government Departments. Today, the Royal Enfield is the most sought after motorcycle in India and has a long waiting list due to many backorders. The plant has ISO9001 and ISO9014 certifications and has over 25,000 patents to its name.

The Royal Enfield Bullet, in its present form, was first introduced in Britain in 1949 as a 350cc bike. It incorporated an innovative design element: swing arm suspension. This feature along with its extremely strong single cylinder engine allowed it to excel as a trials bike. The 500cc model was introduced in Britain during the 1950's, winning hundreds of races. This brought the Bullet international recognition and orders came into the factory in Redditch, England from all over the world.

Today, the Bullet is made in the same manner it was in 1955. However, time has resulted in improved metallurgy, modern machining equipment, and methods to achieve higher quality so in turn they now produce stronger, more durable parts, making the current Bullet superior to the same bike made in 1955.

By the way, Royal Enfield named its bike the Bullet and at the time, it was the fastest motorcycle in the world. The Royal Enfield Bullet became synonymous with the fastest motorcycles, so today, the term "Bullet Bike" refers to any motorcycle made for speed. But the term came from the Royal Enfield Bullet. And the Bullet is the longest produced model of motorcycle on the planet.

Because the bike has been made for over 50 years, there are thousands of accessories available for it. Please stop by Rapid Cycle and request an accessories catalog.
